When did you decide you could start your own business?

To business owners/partners and “someday” daydreamers:

When did you decide you could start your own business? Did your moment happen well before you wrote a business plan? Or were you well on your way when you finally decided, “I can do this”? How did you come to realize you wanted to take on the risk and reward of owning your business? What helped convinced you?

I know a lot of passionate, talented people. Some have started their own businesses. I’m just trying to understand what helped people take that leap. We need to foster this kind of culture in St. Louis.
